ENSSEE supports International Jean Monnet
Symposium "Role of Sport in Europe - Future Challenges and Strategies" at the 'Sportschloß'
in Velen (Germany) on 23 & 24 June 2008
“Sport is a growing social and economic phenomenon which makes a
significant contribution to the European Union's strategic objectives of
solidarity and prosperity.” (EC 2007, White Paper on Sport)
In this regard, the European Commission has addressed, for the first time,
sport-related issues in a comprehensive manner within its “White Paper on
Sport”. The overall objective of this White Paper is to provide strategic
orientation on the role of sport in Europe, to encourage debate on specific
problems, to enhance the visibility of sport in EU policy-making and to raise
public awareness of the needs and specificities of the sector.
Referring to this development, the Symposium ‘Role of Sport in Europe – Future
Challenges and Strategies’ will resume the discussion about the role of sport
in the European integration process and address societal, political,
organisational and legal aspects of sport. In addition to the European focus
the role and function of sport on a local, regional and national level will be
made transparent. Primary objective of the symposium is to develop expert
recommendations for further strategies in order to cope with future challenges
in the four sectors of sport in Europe and to set out references for
additional sports-related action at EU level. Conference language will be
English.
